Stone Henge, Bath & Bristol

We drove from Brighton to a little town just northeast of Portsmouth--Havant--where we stayed in The Bear Hotel. You can guess who made that reservation! It was a quaint little place hundreds of years old with no elevator so again we got exercise bringing our bags up and down the flights of stairs. The next morning we drove to Stone Henge.

Stone Henge is one of those places where visitors are quiet and thoughtful, wondering about the people who moved these giant stones and why. Included with your entrance fee is a self-guided tour, so you will notice in our pictures we are often seen with the device up to our ears. listening and looking, It was very informative.

We traveled on to Bath, where the Romans had extensive baths and an elaborate system of spa services. We went to the museum and again we had a self-guided recorded tour that was very educational. We sat in the plaza and enjoyed a late lunch. Musicians perfom all over the plaza and a man played a woeful song on his flute, hoping for contributions. We decided a happier tune would have been more enjoyable for us and more profitable for him.

There were interesting sculptures in the plaza too. We decided the rabbit masks were so they could attend the public bath without anyone knowing who they were.

On the way, we caught a glimpse of this castle and had to stop for a picture. It is Arundel Castle and the view from the other side is much more impressive but we were looking into the sun which didn't allow the best picture.

We traveled on to Bristol and stayed right downtown in the Bristol Hotel.

We walked around the city centre and enjoyed the sculptures, architecture and fountains.

We walked around the harbour and couldn't resist a picture with this boat that has a special name.
